The Types of Speeches
Speech Categories
- Limited Prep – Speakers draw 2 topic options in each competition round and have a limited amount of time to prepare a speech on one of the topics.
- There are 3 different types of Limited Prep speeches: Impromptu, Apologetics, Extemporaneous
- Interpretation – Speakers explore literature selections to creatively develop and present an original performance.
- There are 4 different types of Interpretation speeches: Biblical Thematic, Duo, Open, Original
- Platform Speeches – Speakers present an original speech scripted word-for-word in advance.
- There are 3 different types of Platform speeches: Digital Presentation, Informative, and Persuasive.
